After meeting in central Munich, travel together via public transport to this magnificent Baroque residence, once the summer home of the Wittelsbach dynasty and one of Europe’s most impressive royal estates.

Inside, explore richly decorated interiors as your guide reveals the story of Bavaria’s ruling family in an age shaped by power, war, and court intrigue. Gain insight into daily life at court, from aristocratic rituals to the realities of those who served behind the scenes.

Beyond the palace, wander the expansive parklands and visit elegant pavilions such as the Amalienburg with its Hall of Mirrors and the Badenburg, an extraordinary 18th century bathing pavilion. (closed 15th October to 1st April). In winter there is the option to visit the royal carriage museum instead.

Itinerary

Your guide will meet you at the main train station before whisking you away vis public transport to the ‘Versalles of Munich’. Inside you will be taken through the beautiful baroque palace as you learn about the colourful history of the royal family as they played the real life Game of Thrones. You will also discuss court life from aristocratic flirting to the daily grind of the servants. You will also be given free time to explore the palace rooms yourselves.

Outside you will explore the magnificent gardens and as you walk past fountains and statues to discover the four park pavilions.

The hunting lodge of an Empress and a Rocco masterpiece. (Closed 16th October to March 28th)

The first of pavilions built by Elector Max Emmanuel. A Chinese inspired mini pleasure palace. (Closed 16th October to March 28th)

A hermitage where the Electors and kings of Bavaria could escape court life for contemplation and studying the bible. Fabulous for its shell grotto and miracle working spring. (Closed 16th October to March 28th)
